Belvedere, James Joyce and Trinity College

Today was our first official day at Belvedere. We spent the morning interacting with students and faculty and then set out into the lovely Dublin rain to learn about the city’s rich literary and educational history.

In the morning we watched Sing Street, which is a new coming of age film about high schoolers in Dublin. The main character of the film is a Belvedere graduate. We then we saw the urban farm on the roof of the school where they grow vegetables. They use fish and pumps to grow the plants. They also keep bees on the roof. After lunch, we went to the James Joyce Center and learned about him and his work. Then we went to Trinity College and saw the Book of Kells which was written around 800 AD. Before we returned to school we enjoyed a bit of shopping time on Grafton St.

Thank you,
