Friday Morning Descent to Dublin

When we first arrived in Dublin, we were all tired from an exhausting flight, but excited to get our trip going.  We went to Belvedere first which we soon learned was a beautiful school.  They are right in the middle of the city, so they have to be creative with their facilities.  We then went on a walk around the city to see some sights.  We got to experience some of Dublin’s fun and beautiful sights such as Temple bar, Grafton Street, and cathedrals.  In the first few minutes we already found some similarities to Boston.  It was a very vintage and nice city with cobblestone roads.  We soon found out that they have no skyscrapers, which is crazy.  In conclusion, with Belvedere being in the beautiful city of Dublin, they had to be creative around the great atmosphere around them.

Friday morning was a bit of a blur, but we had a wonderful welcome from Belvedere’s Headmaster Gerry Foley. We then set off into Dublin for a fascinating walking tour led by the charming and quite funny Liam!

Hello all from Dublin! Today the group went to the Wicklow Mountains for a day of great photography. The views all around were fantastic and the country was amazing. We also made a stop at Saint Kevin’s Chapel and the Monastery there, which included a cemetery that we walked around and reflected in. Then most of the group went on a nice hike and got to see a waterfall as well as beautiful views by a lake. Belvedere, James Joyce and Trinity College

Today was our first official day at Belvedere. We spent the morning interacting with students and faculty and then set out into the lovely Dublin rain to learn about the city’s rich literary and educational history. In the morning we watched Sing Street, which is a new coming of age film about high schoolers in Dublin. The main character of the film is a Belvedere graduate. We then we saw the urban farm on the roof of the school where they grow vegetables. They use fish and pumps to grow the plants. They also keep bees on the roof. After lunch, we went to the James Joyce Center and learned about him and his work. Then we went to Trinity College and saw the Book of Kells which was written around 800 AD. The Final Weekend

"This weekend was very enjoyable. Saturday was a “chill out” day, where we had an amazing brunch and saw local things. On Sunday, I was fortunate to see the beautiful cliff side of Howth.
